PIANO TUNING

Piano Tuning in Trenton, New Jersey

Don studied piano tuning in Philadelphia under Merel Jackson. He finished classes in 1980 and began his career shortly thereafter. Immediately after completing his classes, he began an apprenticeship program. Don was an apprentice for over seven years before strictly running his own business in the Mercer area. Don believes the apprenticeship program was actually more Important to you, the client, than any other aspect of his training.
Piano tuning is a much more complicated process than most people believe. It requires a skill set of mechanical aptitude as well as a refined musical ear. Piano tuning is a mix of science and art. Many musicians would be surprised to learn that the art of piano tuning is the art of equally compromising the differences in the notes across the entire keyboard. This is precisely why Don would tell you to never allow someone to try and tune your piano solely with an electronic device. This video may explain this more fully.

Don incorporated his business in 1989 and has been serving the Mercer County and surrounding area ever since. He has been the piano tuner for the Hamilton Twp School system for the last 25 years and has since been tuning for other school systems, churches, synagogues and private homes. Don is very proud to be called the exclusive piano tuner for such places as The Nassau Inn and other business establishments that count on his expertise.

Don has vast experience in rebuilding pianos. Although you may not need rebuilding services, it is nice to know that Don has this experience. This experience actually helps keep costs down for his clients. While a lesser tuner with more limited knowledge of the inner working of the piano may be able to find and repair problems with your piano, Don will find the problem and address it more rapidly than a less trained technician. This means you spend less on diagnosis and instead your dollars are more wisely spent on the actual repairs that are needed.

These skills also mean he has the expertise to address fine regulation of the piano keyboard or action, as it is called. Does your piano sound dull or far too bright? It may need voicing. Voicing is the art of making the piano hammers harder or softer to the pianists liking. This is a very personal thing to each pianist and Dons ability as a professional piano player himself also helps him communicate in depth with both professional and amateurs alike on adjusting the tone on their instrument to their liking.
